Description

TXL 20 GA PINK Automotive Wire — Motorsport Harness Cable

TXL 20 GA PINK wire from Arctic Performance Parts is a cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated automotive conductor built to SAE J1128 TXL specification. With a conductor cross-section of 0.52 mm² and a continuous current rating of approximately 7–10 amps (depending on installation environment and bundling), this wire is engineered for the demanding thermal and chemical environment of a race car or high-performance road vehicle. The pink insulation colour provides clear, consistent circuit identification throughout a completed wiring harness.

What Is TXL Wire?

TXL (extra-thin wall cross-linked polyethylene) wire is the automotive wire standard specified by SAE J1128 for high-temperature, space-critical applications. The cross-linked insulation provides a continuous temperature rating of 125°C — significantly higher than the 80°C or 105°C ratings of standard PVC or GPT automotive wire — while maintaining a thinner overall jacket that reduces harness diameter and weight. TXL wire resists automotive fluids including fuel, oil, brake fluid, and coolant, and retains flexibility down to −40°C, making it suitable for under-bonnet, firewall, and chassis wiring in all climates. 20 GA TXL wire is the lightest gauge in the solid TXL range and is optimised for the signal-level and low-current control circuits that connect an ECU to its sensors and actuators. It reduces harness weight significantly compared to heavier gauges while remaining robust enough for the motorsport environment.

Pink Insulation — Circuit Colour Coding

The pink TXL wire variant is commonly used for auxiliary signal and indicator control circuits in professionally built motorsport harnesses. Pink provides a distinctive, easily identifiable wire colour for auxiliary signal and indicator circuits, helping to differentiate low-priority or supplementary circuits from primary signal and power wires. Consistent colour coding discipline — assigning the same colour to the same circuit type across every vehicle — is a professional harness building practice that dramatically reduces diagnostic time during fault-finding and repair at the track.

Primary Motorsport Applications — 20 GA

TXL 20 GA wire is well suited to ECU signal and output wiring, sensor supply circuits, injector and ignition trigger wiring, and low-current control circuits. Secondary applications include lambda sensor heater power, boost control solenoid wiring, idle control valve circuits, and status indicator feeds. Its conductor cross-section makes it a practical choice for any circuit where 20 gauge is the correct sizing based on the circuit’s current draw, length, and acceptable voltage drop budget.

TXL vs Tefzel (Mil-Spec) Wire — Choosing the Right Product

TXL wire is the correct choice for the majority of motorsport harness circuits where cost, availability, and flexibility are balanced priorities. Tefzel (M22759/32 ETFE) wire is preferred for critical signal circuits, circuits exposed to extreme heat sources (near turbocharger housings or exhaust manifolds), or applications where the lightest possible weight is essential. For chassis wiring, power distribution, and general motorsport harness builds, TXL wire in the appropriate gauge and colour provides excellent long-term reliability at an accessible price point.
