Mt/Ts 090 Green Wire Seal — Wire Seal for Sumitomo MT/TS 090 series connectors

The 7165-0076 is a MT/TS 090 green wire seal for 22–20 AWG wire, used in Sumitomo MT/TS 090 series connectors assemblies. Individual wire seals are the primary environmental sealing element in sealed automotive and motorsport connector systems — they compress around the wire insulation at the rear of the contact cavity, forming the leak-tight seal that prevents moisture from tracking along the wire into the connector interior. The green colour identifies this seal’s gauge range within the colour-coded wire seal system used across multiple connector families. This seal is suited to fine signal wiring in MT/TS 090 connector assemblies.

Wire Seal Function in Sealed Connector Systems

A sealed automotive connector achieves its IP67 rating through two sealing zones: a face seal (or interface seal) between the two mating connector bodies, and individual wire seals at each contact position on the rear of each connector housing. The wire seal must compress correctly around the wire insulation — it is sized for a specific wire diameter range, and using an incorrectly sized seal (too large for the wire diameter) results in under-compression that allows moisture to bypass the seal along the wire-to-seal interface.

Assembly Note

Wire seals must be installed on the wire before the terminal is crimped — they cannot be retrofitted after crimping. The correct assembly sequence is: slide seal onto wire → strip conductor → crimp terminal → position seal at the insulation grip area behind the terminal barrel → insert terminal into connector housing. Verify the seal is correctly positioned and the wire OD is within the seal’s specified range before insertion.
