Raychem MiniSeal Yellow Splice — 12–10 AWG Motorsport Wire Crimp Splice Connector
The D-436-59 is a Raychem MiniSeal yellow stub splice with integrated pre-crimped contact for 12–10 AWG (3.3–5.3 mm² mm²) wire, used in motorsport wiring harness splice joints where both electrical continuity and environmental sealing at the splice are required. Raychem MiniSeal splices are used throughout professional motorsport and aerospace harness construction for sealed mid-harness circuit extensions, wire repairs, and circuit additions where a watertight splice is required. This splice suits higher-current power and distribution circuits in the 12–10 AWG range.
What Is a Raychem MiniSeal Splice?
A MiniSeal splice is a combined crimp connector and heat-activated environmental seal in one component. The splice contains a crimp barrel that mechanically connects the two wire conductors, enclosed within a heat shrink sleeve with an inner adhesive lining. After the wire conductors are crimped, heat is applied to the outer sleeve — it shrinks down to conform to the wire insulation on both sides, and the adhesive lining melts and flows to create a watertight seal around the completed splice. The result is a crimp joint with environmental sealing equivalent to a separately-applied adhesive-lined heat shrink sleeve, but completed in a single step without having to pre-install the heat shrink before crimping.
Sealed Splice vs Standard Parallel Splice
Standard parallel (butt) splices provide a reliable mechanical and electrical crimp joint but offer no environmental sealing — moisture can enter the splice from either end along the wire conductor. In motorsport harness applications where a splice is located in an exposed or moisture-prone location — near wheel arches, on the chassis floor, in the engine bay, or within a connector body — a sealed MiniSeal splice provides the environmental protection that a standard splice cannot. For harness sections routed through sealed connectors or fully protected by heat shrink sleeving, a standard splice may be adequate; for any exposed mid-harness splice, MiniSeal is the professional specification.
Colour Coding — Yellow (12–10 AWG)
Raychem MiniSeal splices use a standard colour coding system: red for 22–18 AWG, blue for 18–14 AWG, and yellow for 12–10 AWG. The yellow colour identifies this splice as rated for 12–10 AWG wire — selecting the correct colour for the wire gauge being spliced ensures correct crimp barrel sizing for a properly formed gas-tight crimp joint. Using an oversized or undersized splice for the wire gauge results in an improperly formed crimp that may pass visual inspection but fail mechanically or electrically under vibration and thermal cycling.
