Socket Contacts in the Fixed Receptacle
The standard HD30 gender convention places pin contacts in the fixed receptacle and socket contacts in the plug. However, there are valid engineering reasons to reverse this: socket contacts in the fixed receptacle protect the contacts from accidental touch contact and contamination fouling when the plug is disconnected, which is relevant in applications where the vehicle’s fixed connector is left unmated for extended periods — during winter storage or long-term component removal. The HD34-24-18SN is the correct specification for these reversed-gender installations.
