Textalu 1/2″ Aluminium-Coated Fiberglass Heat Sleeve — Motorsport Harness Radiant Heat Protection

The TX-1202-12 is a Textalu aluminium-coated fibreglass heat sleeve in 1/2″ (approximately 12.7 mm internal diameter). Textalu sleeve provides radiant heat protection for motorsport wiring harnesses in engine bay environments, combining a high-temperature fibreglass braid structure with an aluminium foil outer coating that reflects infrared radiation away from the wiring inside. This sleeve is suited to medium wire bundles and primary sub-harness runs in engine bay heat zones.

How Textalu Sleeve Works — Radiant Heat Reflection

Heat reaches a wire harness in two primary ways: conduction (direct contact with a hot surface) and radiation (infrared energy emitted from a hot surface without contact). Standard protective sleeving addresses conduction and abrasion but provides little protection against radiated heat from exhaust manifolds, turbocharger housings, and catalytic converters — sources that can raise wire insulation temperature significantly even without direct contact. The Textalu aluminium coating reflects a large proportion of incident infrared radiation back toward the heat source, dramatically reducing the thermal load on the wire insulation inside the sleeve compared to an unprotected or fibreglass-only sleeved harness routed in the same location.

Textalu vs FireFlex — Choosing the Right Product

Both Textalu and FireFlex provide protection in high-temperature engine bay environments, but their mechanisms differ. FireFlex (silicone-coated fibreglass) provides excellent conduction resistance and modest IR reflection from a flexible, self-closing format. Textalu provides maximum infrared reflection from its aluminium surface but requires a closure method (heat shrink end caps or tie-wraps) to secure it over the harness. For locations where radiated heat from nearby exhaust is the dominant thermal challenge, Textalu is the correct specification; for locations where direct heat conduction from contact with hot surfaces is the primary concern, FireFlex or the DragonSleeve format is more appropriate.

1/2″ Size — Application Range

The 1/2″ internal diameter suits medium wire bundles and primary sub-harness runs in engine bay heat zones. Textalu sleeve should be sized to slide freely over the wire bundle — a tight fit prevents installation and does not leave the protective air gap that contributes to the sleeve’s thermal insulation performance.
