22 AWG × 4 Four-Conductor Shielded Tefzel Cable — Motorsport EMI-Protected Wiring

The M27500/22SB4T23 is a 22 AWG 4-conductor shielded Tefzel (ETFE) cable with overall tinned copper braid shield and drain wire. With 0.32 mm² per conductor at 22 AWG, it is designed for ECU sensor signal harnesses, data acquisition input circuits, knock sensor wiring, and precision sensor transmission requiring EMI shielding. The tinned copper braid shield provides attenuation of radiated electromagnetic interference that would otherwise corrupt sensor signals in the EMI-rich environment of a race car engine bay.

Why Shielded Cable Is Required in Motorsport Harnesses

A modern race car generates significant electromagnetic interference from ignition systems, fuel injectors, high-current switching relays, electric motors, and CAN bus communication. Unshielded wire in this environment acts as an antenna, picking up induced noise voltages that appear as erroneous data on connected ECU input channels. Shielded cable routes the braid as a Faraday cage around the conductors — any EMI intercepted by the braid is diverted to chassis ground through the drain wire, rather than appearing on the signal circuit. For precision sensor circuits, CAN bus, data acquisition inputs, and any circuit where measurement accuracy matters, shielded cable is the correct specification wherever the cable runs near ignition wiring, high-current feeds, or other EMI sources.

Four-Conductor Format

This cable carries four conductors within a single overall braid shield — used for multi-channel shielded sensor groups, four-wire actuator circuits requiring shielding, and data acquisition input bundles where four signals share a common shield for harness simplification.

22 AWG — Conductor Application

The 22 AWG (0.32 mm²) conductor cross-section is suited to ECU sensor signal harnesses, data acquisition input circuits, knock sensor wiring, and precision sensor transmission requiring EMI shielding.

Tefzel (ETFE) Insulation and Drain Wire

Each conductor uses Tefzel (ETFE) insulation providing 150°C continuous temperature resistance and chemical resistance to motorsport fluids. The tinned copper braid is terminated via the drain wire — a separate uninsulated conductor in contact with the braid throughout the cable length — which provides a consistent, solderable connection point for grounding the braid at a single end of the circuit. The shield drain wire should be connected to chassis ground at one end only; grounding at both ends creates a ground loop that can introduce additional noise into the circuit rather than removing it.
